Topical spironolactone is a medication used to manage acne, especially hormonal breakouts.

Topical spironolactone works by blocking androgen receptors in the skin, reducing the effects of hormones that cause acne.

  • Hormonal Acne Control: Targets acne caused by hormonal imbalances.
  • Sebum Reduction: Decreases oil production in the skin.
  • Anti-Inflammatory: Helps reduce redness and swelling associated with acne.

Improvements typically appear at 12 weeks.

Common side effects include redness, dryness, and mild irritation. This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Always read your Uncouth patient information leaflet prior to using your treatment.

Spironolactone should not be used during pregnancy whilst breastfeeding.
